Let’s paint the scene…you were on the hunt for the perfect gift but couldn’t find just one thing, you found a few smaller things, but a few small things are not going to cut it so we must get more small things. But a bunch of small things in a bag looks silly so we must get a basket. Now what!? Panicking!! Or perhaps…you just have no idea what to get that person who has everything…
Read along for our TOP THREE tips for creating gift basket success.
First up is deciding on a basket theme.
The idea of many things coming together to create one thing is a commonality. This could be bath, self care, movie night, for the cook, a new home, all things rainbow…There isn’t really a set rule of what you can and cannot do, just pick the direction and really think about all the different paths it can go. For example; if I am choosing a bath basket, I’m not just placing bath salts and bath bombs in. I’m thinking about before, after and during the tub. Before, they may light a candle and pour salts or oils, during they may enjoy a book or a glass of wine, after they might use a lotion or a rope and slippers. Encompassing the entire experience is our goal.
Secondly we suggest to choose a colour scheme.
Now, this is my personal favourite because it helps to bring all of the small items together as one in a subtle way. It elevates the sense of quality when it makes sense visually. Having a mash up of patterns, colours and saturations can appear last minute and not well thought out. Choose two to three colours from one of the items in your gift and keep those in mind when choosing the remaining pieces. This can be as easy as choosing the orange chocolate package to match the image on the movie cover or pattern on the blanket!
And last hot tip is in the basket assembly (yay we’ve made it!).
Choosing a basket that is to scale of your items can make your gift. A basket that is too large can dwarf your chosen items, making it appear cheap. A basket that is too small doesn’t allow your items to be on full display and looks cramped. You will receive bonus points if your basket doubles as another gift like a popcorn bowl or a foot soak tub! Once you’ve found the basket, you want to have a generous amount of fill. This would be something like crinkle paper or tissue. This helps to bring your items higher up on display as well as cover the bottom of the basket – it can also help snags if you have a soft item with a weave or knit in a wicker basket. And circling back to our final assembly, placing the items from large and tall at the back to small in the front will give the best first impression.
Finish your basket off with a ribbon and bow and/or cellophane wrapping and you are ready to roll!
