An Update..

Hen and chick studios is a Saskatoon gift shop located in the downtown district. They officially opened their doors at the end of October 2014. In the near five years it was located in Riverdale district, beside the old farmers market building, it doubled in size and brought in over 90 local and Canadian vendors or small businesses. This mother and daughter team put in the time to bring these unique products to their shelves. Attending garage sales, craft markets, trade shows, and countless hours online. You see, in 2014 the entrepreneur spirit wasn’t what it is today. It was quite the challenge sometimes to find high quality items close to home!

It came time in 2020, before the pandemic mind you, to move. The shelves were full, the back room was past full, and seasonal items were being stored off site. It was difficult at first to envision any other space being home. But with some mockup photos and problem solving we were able to find a direction we liked.

A lot of sweat and hard work went into the new space. The biggest job was removing the drop ceiling and florescent lights as we had to repair the original plaster ceilings and install new electrical for pendant lighting. This continued into renovating the bathrooms, tearing down a wall and building a new one, laying floorings, building a front sign, oh the list goes on. But it was worth it for double the space, a workshop room, and storage area!

Fast forward to 2024, Hen and Chick still calls 2nd Avenue North home and is continually looking for new products as businesses to animate their shelves for the best gift shopping experience.
